CW - The Pack-In Pack-Out Workout
2m 18s
"That's the closest thing we've done to a pack-out yet."
MTNTOUGH'er Braxton Flaming
MTNTOUGH Coach Jimmy Alsobrook continues to ideate and create new workouts designed to optimize the experience of backcountry hunters, or any mountain athletes for that matter. With this one, Jimmy focuses on the fact that when you go into the woods and connect with an animal, your pack weighs a hell of a lot more on the way out, than it did on the way in. This workout perfectly simulates that difficulty. Here's how it goes...
The Warmup
2 Rounds
Bandwalks - 20 (10 each side)
Reverse Hyper Extensions - 20
Chin-ups - 10
NOW PUT YOUR PACK ON
The Workout

Lateral Staircase Climb Right - 1
Forward Staircase Climb - 2
Asymmetrical Step up (hold 35lb DB in one arm) - 20 (10 each side)
Sled Push/Pull - 40yds
Over/Unders - 20 (10 each side)
TRX Rows - 10
Finisher

Notes:
For the warmup, make sure you progress through it slowly, each rep should be done with intention, and good form. Bandwalks are to be done laterally.
For the Workout, the goal is to go as fast as you can in the first portion. We want to get your heart rate super high, to simulate an intense steep hike to get a good shot on your target. For the finisher, you'll feel your heart-rate plummet. And this is a slow grind to the end, to simulate your heavy pack after harvesting your kill.
If you have any questions about the form of these exercises, or specifics about the workout, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected].
