In today's video, we sat down with MTNTOUGH Coach Jimmy Alsobrook to discuss a new groundbreaking lunge for the mountain athlete and backcountry hunter. Traditionally, these athletes train heavily with step-ups, which are great, but the athlete doesn't have to drive forward as you do when you are climbing a long gradual ascent. In the mountains, you are rarely going straight up. More likely, you are climbing an incline for a long duration, sometimes 4-6 hours. We have been experimenting with the deficit lunge in the lab and we've had groundbreaking results with our mountain hunters this Fall. The Deficit Lunge can be loaded with dumbbells or heavy packs for a badass workout that mimics how you feel in the hills. Our mountain hunters are feeling so good about this movement, that we've included it in a few new MTNTOUGH programs coming out this Winter.
